Our Profile

Bird Finders Uganda began in 2011, sparked by a deep passion for ornithology among a small group of Ugandan birdwatchers and conservationists. We have a range experience of 13 years however we were fully incorporated as a company privately owned in September 2021 under registration certificate number 80020003263643.

The founders recognized that Uganda, with its diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical rainforests and savannas to high-altitude mountains, was home to an extraordinary variety of bird species — over 1,000, including several rare and endemic species. These founders, who were passionate ornithologists and conservationists, were driven by a desire to share Uganda's rich avian biodiversity with the world while promoting bird conservation in the region.

As birdwatching grew in popularity globally, the founders of Bird Finders Uganda saw an opportunity to position Uganda as a premier birdwatching destination. They began by organizing birding expeditions for both local enthusiasts and international tourists, showcasing unique species like the Shoebill, the Great Blue Turaco, and the African Green Broadbill. By creating well-planned birdwatching tours, Bird Finders Uganda enabled visitors to explore Uganda’s national parks, wetlands, and forest reserves, which are vital habitats for a variety of bird species.

Their passion extended beyond tourism; Bird Finders Uganda also focused on raising awareness about the importance of bird conservation. They started collaborating with local communities, training them as birding guides, and educating them on the economic value of conserving their natural habitats. These community-centered initiatives not only provided local employment but also fostered a sense of stewardship for Uganda's bird habitats, contributing to sustainable conservation efforts.

Since its inception, Bird Finders Uganda has grown significantly, attracting birdwatchers, researchers, and conservationists from around the world. The organization has become an influential player in Uganda’s eco-tourism and conservation landscape, highlighting the importance of birds in the country's natural heritage and showcasing Uganda as one of Africa's top birdwatching destinations.
